Bedford
The Town of Bedford is one of the most
sought-after residential areas in Northern
Westchester County. The town is comprised of
three hamlets: Bedford Village, Bedford Hills,
and Katonah. Each of the hamlets is rich in
history and has its own distinct character.
Bedford Village is laid out in typical New
England village green-fashion with a preserved
historic district that is recognized by New York
State and the National Register of Historic
Places. It has long been known for its elegant
estates and gracious country living. Bedford
Hills, with its newly refurbished town center, is
the seat of town government and home to the Town
House built in 1927. Route 117 travels through
the town and leads to the business corridor of
Mt. Kisco. Bedford Hills also offers a direct
commute via Metro North into New York City.
The Town of Bedford offers a considerable
array of recreational programs, and the Bedford
Riding Lanes Association maintains an extensive
network of riding trails throughout the area.
Each hamlet features its own unique
"downtown" shopping area and its own
library. The Bedford Central School District,
which serves Bedford and Pound Ridge, enjoys an
excellent academic reputation, as well as having
a strong focus on the arts and athletics.
