Yorktown The Town of Yorktown is located in Northern Westchester County, 35 miles north of New York City and 20 miles north of White Plains, making it the perfect suburban Commuter's Community. The Town is made up of the five hamlets of Crompond, Jefferson Valley, Shrub Oak, Mohegan Lake and Yorktown Heights. Originally populated by the Mohegan Indians, Yorktown was officially settled in 1697, as part of a land grant given to Stephanus Van Cortland. Called "Hanover" at that time, the name was changed to "Yorktown" after the successful battle in Yorktown, Virginia. From country estates to family neighborhoods, Yorktown is steeped in tradition and history, while still offering all modern conveniences in one of the fastest growing suburban communities in Northern Westchester. The Town has a population of 35,000 and encompasses 40 square miles of mainly residential neighborhoods. From wooded hideaways to lakeside retreats, Yorktown offers diversity for every taste and interest. Although home to many commuters to New York City, White Plains and Connecticut cities, many Yorktown residents work locally as well. Yorktown's proximity to key highways, buses and railroad lines makes commuting very convenient. Please e-mail or call for information on the other communities we serve or follow links at left.
