Eastchester, Bronxville, and Tuckahoe

The town of Eastchester is a wonderful community - close to the nation's biggest city yet with the small town feel that is important to so many.  Eastchester is bounded by Scarsdale on the north, New Rochelle on the east, Mount Vernon on the south and Yonkers on the west.  The town covers approximately five square miles and includes the villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe and the unincorporated area known as the Town Outside.

Eastchester's first permanent settlement was established in 1664 when ten families migrated from Fairfield, CT, soon to be joined by others.  Laws for the region were drawn up the following year under an agreement called the "Eastchester Covenant". The Covenant was a rare self-governing document for this period. Its 26 provisions included such items as education of children, disposition and upkeep of property, and support of a minister.

Eastchester is considered to be the birthplace of the "Bill of Rights".  It was a farming community at the outbreak of the American Revolution.  With the coming of the railroad in the 1840's, Eastchester's rural character began to change. The village of Bronxville was incorporated in 1898, and the Village of Tuckahoe in 1903.  In the late 1800’s, Tuckahoe was considered the Marble Capital of the World, with its quarry supplying stone for the likes of the NY Public Library and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Money magazine recently ranked Eastchester high on their list of Top 100 towns in America, taking into consideration the town’s convenient commute, vast amenities, and mix of housing.  Just 15 miles from mid-town Manhattan, 3 train stations in the town provide commuters with quick and frequent service.  Lake Isle Park, once a private country club, now belongs to the town with membership open to all residents to enjoy swimming, tennis, golf and catering facilities.

Housing in Eastchester ranges from prestigious single-family homes and townhouses with water views of Lake Isle, to modest homes in many of the long-established neighborhoods, and newly constructed homes with every modern amenity.  The Garth Road section of Eastchester is lined with primarily cooperative apartments in charming buildings, all within walking distance of the train station and shops.  Other sections of town offer co-ops, condominiums, rental apartments, as well as single-family properties, with something for everyone in every price range.
