Mohegan Lake, Yorktown, Yorktown Heights, Crompond, Jefferson Valley, and Shrub Oak

The Town of Yorktown is located in Northern Westchester County, 35 miles north of New York City and 20 miles north of White Plains, making it the perfect “commuter's community”.  With sidewalks, street lights, plentiful shopping including the Jefferson Valley Mall with its 90 or so stores and 8-screen multiplex, and more municipal services than many of its northern neighbors, Yorktown smoothly combines suburban with semi-rural.

The Town is made up of the five hamlets of Crompond, Jefferson Valley, Shrub Oak, Mohegan Lake and Yorktown Heights. Originally populated by the Mohegan Indians, Yorktown was officially settled in 1697, as part of a land grant given to Stephanus Van Cortland.  Called "Hanover" at that time, the name was changed to "Yorktown" after the successful battle in Yorktown, Virginia.

The Town has a population of 35,000 and encompasses 40 square miles of mainly residential neighborhoods.  From country estates to family neighborhoods, Yorktown is steeped in tradition and history, while still offering all modern conveniences.  As one of Westchester’s fasting growing townships, Yorktown has added stylish townhouses and condominiums, spacious new construction, high-end communities, and senior housing to its mix in recent years.

Although home to many commuters to New York City, White Plains and Connecticut cities, many Yorktown residents work locally as well. Yorktown's proximity to key highways, buses and railroad lines makes commuting very convenient.  On weekends, residents can enjoy fishing & boating at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, nature hikes at Teatown Lake Reservation, the scenic views from Turkey Mountain, biking on the North County Trailway, or hitting the fairways at one of two 18-hole public golf courses.
