Town of North Castle, including North White Plains, Armonk, and Banksville

A ruggedly beautiful Westchester hamlet, Armonk has preserved the charm of the past and offers a sophisticated country setting just 35 miles from Manhattan.  It occupies 16.3 square miles and makes up more than two-thirds of North Castle, a sprawling 26-square mile town that also includes the hamlets of Banksville and North White Plains. Armonk has many amenities that make it an attractive and compelling place to call home, including an express train that whisks commuters to Grand Central from the North White Plains station in 40 minutes. 

North Castle’s character, though largely residential, maintains its rural charm through careful zoning. The majority of residential land is zoned for one and two acres, preserving significant tracts of open space.  A surge of high-end development in the past couple of decades has brought a wave of new residents, generating growth in the mix of retail and businesses found in the downtown district.  One of Armonk’s long-time “residents” that has positively impacted the town is the IBM corporate headquarters, bringing with it significant numbers of jobs and visitors over the years, and helping keep residential property taxes below those of neighboring towns. 

Seasonal events such as the annual “Fol de Rol” and a juried art show put Armonk in the regional spotlight.  Wampus Pond has rowboat rentals, and numerous parks and ball fields dot the landscape.  A former cider mill that drew countywide residents on weekend mornings in the fall for fresh apple cider and warm donuts has recently been converted to a gated community of single-family and townhouses.

Despite recent development and growth, North Castle has retained a measure of its rural roots and maintained a desirable, high quality of life for its residents.
